Greyhounds: Hobby halfway to a very good Friday

Nambeelup-based trainer David Hobby has half the field for the Good Friday Cup final (400m), which will be run at Tabtouch Park Mandurah this Friday evening.

Hobby was prominent during last weekend’s heat stage with wins from Sunset Hornet, Lil Bit Twisted and Sunset Frazier, and he snuck a fourth runner into the trophy decider when Sunset Ali ran second behind Our Benson.

Sunset Hornet was the fastest qualifier after she clocked a track record-equalling time of 21.90 to score by three-and-a-half lengths over Get A Beer.

The exciting black chaser has now saluted in her past three starts and has won eight of her past 11.

Sunset Frazier rebounded from a disappointing finish in the Perth Cup a week earlier to burn past the leading Mashle Wave in the back straight and then kick away to win by a big margin in 22.06.

Lil Bit Twisted made it two wins from his past three when he held out a fast closing Barrio Beast to collect victory in 22.21.

The Kody Charles-trained Our Benson led all-the-way to win his heat in 22.04 and the other heat winner was Panadero Thunder.

Panadero Thunder prevailed in a tight three-way finish with Rubidium and Sunset Callisto to return to the winner’s circle after missing out in his previous two attempts.

Friday’s meeting will commence earlier than normal with the first race scheduled at approximately 4pm.
