Mandurah’s famous Giant residents have been recognised in the national Australian Street Art Awards.

Danish artist Thomas Dambo’s Giants of Mandurah sculptures were named a gold winner for Best Sculpture Park or Trail at the Art of Attraction Tourism Summit held on Queensland’s Sunshine Coast on March 8.

The popular sculptures, which were unveiled in secretive locations around Mandurah in November 2022, were one of nine WA finalists in the awards.

The five Giants have become a drawcard attraction for the city, which was recognised as the country’s Top Tourism Town in September.

Other WA attractions won big at the awards, with Collie’s Reflections Mural at Wellington Dam named WA’s Best Street Art Experience and the town’s mural trail named Best Street Art Trail.

Bronze awards also went to WA’s Exmouth Sundown Silo and Derby’s Sculptures on the Marsh.

Judges for the awards said the artworks recognised in this year’s accolades contributed to making “Australia a more vibrant, creative and interesting country, somewhere visitors want to explore more keenly”.
