CONSTRUCTION of Yanchep’s long awaited playing fields has finished, with an official opening planned this month.
Wanneroo councillor Linda Aitken told the Two Rocks Yanchep Residents Association the event was planned for March 24 to celebrate completion of the Yanchep active open space.
At the group’s February 26 meeting, residents said the ovals looked “really good” and “really big”.

READ NOWMembers also discussed the need for direct pedestrian access from streets west of the facility, with the only access for vehicles currently off the Yanchep Beach Road and Marmion Avenue roundabout.
President Peter Wimsett said there was a “wind tunnel” across the fields and he presumed the City would plant trees on the western side to create a wind buffer.
Yanchep Redhawks Football Club, Yanchep Redhawks Cricket Club, Yanchep Junior Football Club, Yanchep United Soccer Club and Yanchep Little Athletics will use the 11ha facility.
It includes two ovals, two hard courts for basketball and netball, cricket nets, long jump pits and clubrooms.
