TWO women who have excelled in their professional careers will talk at the Victoria Park Library during International Women’s Day on March 8.

Hockeyroo Kathryn Slattery represented Australia at the 2016 Summer Olympics, was part of the team that won Gold at the 2017 Oceania Cup, and is currently vying for selection in the Commonwealth Games squad that will compete in the Gold Coast in April.

An identical twin, Slattery hails from a farming family in the small community of South Stirling, five hours’ drive south of Perth.

Megan Lockyer is a drill and blast operator for Fortescue Metals Group (FMG) in Solomon and is a finalist in the 2018 Women in Resources Awards.

Ms Lockyer is an Ngarluma, Yindjibarndi and Kuruma woman from Roebourne and is proud to be the first indigenous female to operate the D65 drill rig in Solomon.

Her partner was also an FMG employee in Solomon, but sadly lost his life after a one punch attack, leaving behind his two children.

Since his passing Ms Lockyer has helped share the awareness of this act through the Keep Your Hands To Yourself campaign, which was started by Danny Green.

The event is free but bookings need to be made on the Town of Victoria Park’s website.
