The City of Kwinana is proposing to increase minimum rates by 3.5 percent, an increase of about $49 to the average ratepayer on an improved residential property.
Residents have until May 22 to have their say on the rates increases and changes.
A comparison with other local government areas revealed some rates categories were much higher than those in surrounding suburbs – namely vacant residential which was 34 per cent higher than an averaging of Kwinana’s neighbouring councils, and GRV commercial and industrial was 6.77 per cent higher.

READ NOWThis prompted the city to support Option Two of the officer’s recommendation at its April 10 council meeting, which sought to increase two of its rating categories by just 2.5 percent, namely GRV commercial and industrial and GRV vacant residential.
It will continue to press on towards simplifying its rating categories to just three by 2023/24. Minimum rates for all categories are expected to increase by 3.5 percent.
The rates increase for 2019/20 is expected to provide revenue of $41 million.
