FORMER foreign minister Julie Bishop will be the next chancellor of the Australian National University.
The retired Liberal politician is set to replace Gareth Evans, becoming the first woman to hold the role, the university announced in an email to staff on Thursday.
Ms Bishop, who left federal parliament at the election in May after more than 20 years, will begin the role on January 1.
