Dianella Meats to celebrate 35th anniversary

DIANELLA Meats owner Dave Archdeacon, who will celebrate his 35th anniversary at Dianella Plaza on October 16, says the secret to success is his “passion for meat”.

The Dianella resident’s shop has gone through three renovations, with the latest orange makeover being completed in 2015.

He previously had a shop in Doubleview.

Mr Archdeacon, who has been a butcher for 47 years, said he was excited for the anniversary event.

“It is in the blood,” he said.

“If you have not got it in your blood, you don’t do it.

“You just have to have a passion for meat.”

Mr Archdeacon said there have been up and downs throughout his time at the plaza.

“When I first came here, there were not many shops around but now, there are more meat shops around here which has changed,” he said.

“It is harder to make more money because there is just too much competition.”

He said the biggest award he won was the apprentice of the year in 1976 and his favourite cut of meat was a big rib eye.

He was looking forward to retirement and travelling within the next few years.

Centre manager Tim Rankin said Mr Archdeacon offered “old school customer service” and loved to chat and share jokes.
