FOR Dianella barbecuing brothers-in-law Leon and Cory Tartaglia, their self-described “bromance” continues to grow after a special experience on the second series of Channel Nine’s Family Food Fight.

Starting Monday night, the duo auditioned for a shot in the show after being approached by producers who were impressed by their skills posted on their Instagram page Cheatmeats.

“We (Cory and I) are close and basically doing everything together,” Leon said.

“In February, I grabbed a few Webbers from dad and we started playing around in the backyard and photographing our dishes for Instagram.

“We had no idea if we would get on (the show) but thought if we did, imagine all the stories we would be able to tell around the barbecue with a few beers in 10 years time.

“It was a bit of fun and we went in close and came out even closer – we are very grateful.”

Leon said the pair, who had no experience in making desserts or sides, went into the show wanting to learn everything they could, especially from dessert queen and judge Anna Polyviou.

“We just didn’t do sides or desserts, our wives were the specialists with those dishes,” Leon said.

“I had no idea how to temper chocolate before going on the show or how to use gelatine but that’s something we learnt off Anna.

“We love her, she’s brilliant and while we kind of felt like a couple of meatheads, we wanted to prove to ourselves we could cook more than just protein so we tried our hardest and did not too bad.”

Wanting to continue their food journey outside the show, Leon said he and Cory hoped one day to be able to cook their way around Australia.

“We like to take every single opportunity that comes our way and we have found this real passion for cooking and barbecuing – we hope to go wherever it takes us.”

Family Food Fight airs on the Nine Network.
