Belinda CiprianoEastern Reporter

AFTER teasing followers for years with his drool-worthy instapics, well-respected R’N’B DJ Karl Blue will mix food and beats as part of his new venture Thuggs Fried Chicken and Waffles in Leederville.

Opening tomorrow, the self-described fussy foodie said Perth foodies should be prepared to taste some of most delicious fried chicken they’d ever tasted teamed with the best R’N’B beats.

Items on the menu include Thuggets – their take on nuggets, a Thuggs burger range including the “Mr Wallace” which pays tribute to Biggie Smalls and the Cone of Thuggs (a waffle cone of Thuggs fried chicken, dirty slaw and your choice of cheesy sauce, sriracha, mayo or ranch dressing).

As with every restaurant these days a Thugg challenge is also on the menu – the “Deebo Challenge”, which includes five layers of delicious Thugg fried chicken pieces, streaky bacon, mac n cheese, dirty slaw and cheddar sticks surrounded by cheesy fries.

Having worked with likes of the Jacksons, Mary J Blige and LL Cool J, Blue said after being labelled a “thug” in high school and being told he would amount to nothing because of his love of rap music, he hoped he would turn the negative “thug” stereotype into a positive venture.

“The one thing that has always stuck with me is the ‘will never amount to anything in life’ part,” he said.

“I’ve always used that as drive in anything I do and always tried to turn that negative into a positive.”

Thuggs Fried Chicken and Waffles open tomorrow and will be giving away free chicken samples until Sunday.

They can be found at 747 Newcastle Street, Leederville.
