WITH the festive season fast approaching, learn how to impress guests with a little help from a Perth Masterchef.
This month, 2018 top 10 contestant Brendan Pang will be at Phoenix Shopping Centre in Spearwood sharing recipes and cooking tips.
A far cry from the pressure cooker situation on Masterchef Australia, this time Brendan won’t be on a tight time restraint nor will George Calombaris be hovering over his shoulder shouting “boom, boom shake the room”.
On Saturday Brendan prepared dishes from his Mauritian/Asian heritage.
Audience members learnt how to make the perfect pork dumpling with spicy sesame sauce and a tasty Mauritian fried noodle dish with fresh prawns and egg noodles.
Brendan told Community News his love for food started at a young age, being surrounded by inspirational cooks, such as his Mum and Grandma, but he never thought of pursuing a career in food until recently.
“From watching my Dad pick fresh mangoes from the tree out the front of our house to sitting around the dining table with my Grandma learning how to prepare wontons. You could say my passion for cooking developed naturally,’’ he said.
“My food is definitely less fine dining and more home cooked meals where you can taste the love in it.”
For those wanting inspiration for their Christmas lunch, you might want to mark this Saturday and next Saturday in your diary.
Brendan will be back sharing some of his favourite festive dishes and desserts such as chicken kiev balls with tarragon aioli, crunchy prawn fritters with a mint yogurt dip and ricotta donuts with lemon and mandarin curd and custard.
Brendan says a key ingredient in his cooking is fresh local WA produce.
The former social worker from Broome said Masterchef had been an incredible journey, which had opened many doors for him in the culinary world.
He recently returned from Sydney where he had the great honour of working alongside one of Australia’s leading chefs and restaurateurs Mark Best.
Brendan will be at Phoenix Shopping Centre between 11am-3pm on December 8 and 15 and the public will have an opportunity for a meet and greet following the cooking demonstrations.
Little Masterchefs will also have the opportunity to join in the fun, with free cupcake decorating demonstrations.
