SINGER Cathrine Summers might have chosen to make Perth her new hometown over Horsham, England where she grew up, but her heart belongs to Paris.
“After I was born, my mum, dad, myself and older brother moved to live in Compiègne, a town on the outskirts of Paris,” Summers said.
“The first words I ever spoke were in French and I grew up for the first years of my life in a typical French lifestyle.

READ NOW“Although it was a relatively short time and I hardly remember it, my (English) parents acquired a kind of reminiscing culture of their time there that influenced our lives so greatly.”
It is little surprise the 30-something singer chose to honour the city she loves close to Valentine’s Day with Fringe World 2016 show A Summers Night in Paris on January 31 (sold out), and February 11, 12 and 13 at new pop up Fringe venue Parrott House in Maylands.
“It’s the first time the venue has been in the festival and the vision for the venue fit the show perfectly,” she said.
“It’s a warehouse with a vintage cabaret makeover. Think red velvet everywhere; a perfect intimate cabaret seated auditorium with vintage styling.”
The lively evening will be filled with music and dance (one of the performers is an ex-Moulin Rouge dancer) set against projected imagery of the French capital.
Summers will present her ode to Paris through songs by Edith Piaf, Cole Porter and other standards from the Parisian jazz-cabaret era.
“I would love for people to feel a little like they’ve been on a short romantic walk along the Seine with beautiful music,” Summers said.
“Hopefully they will leave with that kind of glow you get when you’ve visited a wonderful place with wonderful friends or a loved one.
“Because we are projecting pictures of Paris, it would be lovely to think people might feel closer to Paris, perhaps inspired to go or go back.”
