Astor Theatre gets the best of Samantha Jade’s love on September 14

Tanya MacNaughtonEastern Reporter

SINGER Samantha Jade has always dreamed of singing at Astor Theatre, so the venue was her natural choice when it came to planning her first national headline tour, Best of My Love – Live.

“Astor Theatre is a very precious place for me,” Jade said.

“I’m from Morley so if you have to drive to the city, which we went to a lot when I was little, you go down Beaufort Street and see Astor Theatre.

“My mum used to live in Mt Lawley, so we’d go for coffee on that street and my dad grew up there. It’s where he first lived when he arrived from India.”

Jade will perform songs from her latest disco album Best of My Love, along with her previous hits including What You’ve Done To Me and Firestarter.

“I’ve always loved disco; it’s such a fun genre,” she said.

“Making the record was great but I was really pushing for the tour because I was imagining all the choreography I could do.

“I want everyone to come and forget about everything that’s going on in their life, good or bad, and just lose themselves in the music. That’s what I love about going to shows and that’s what I really hope to put on for people.”

Being a Perth girl, Jade decided she wanted to ensure her home town was part of the inaugural tour and announced a competition for her September 14 concert.

The winning entrant, judged via 60-second video audition, will win a one-on-one mentoring session with Jade before performing a 20-minute opening set for her Astor Theatre show.

“I haven’t seen any entries yet but my management are saying some of the ones that have come through so far are really good and they’ve wished me luck choosing the winner,” she said.

“I just want to see someone truly being themselves and singing with heart and soul. I think the biggest thing for me is finding someone who can really tell a story when they sing a song.”

Entries are open until August 31 at smarturl.it/SJ.PerthSupportComp.
