SINGER Brian Cadd will return to his teenage stamping ground next month when he performs in the 13th A Rhythm and Blues Variety Revue for Legacy at Astor Theatre.
Born in Subiaco, the former Mt Lawley SHS student (1959-61) said he had fond memories from his school days, including being lined up for assembly in height order.
“I was always the shortest,” Cadd said.

READ NOW“I used to play piano for the kids to march into school from assembly. I played the theme from the film The Bridge on the River Kwai.”
It was during those formative years that Cadd formed a friendship with Chris Roberts, a mate who would have an influence on his music career.
“His father was a fan of the American Civil War and I can remember there being toy soldiers in their house on tables organised into the various famous battles,” Cadd said.
“As a result, years later I wrote Arkansas Grass for Axiom because I had been so intrigued by the American Civil War.
“Chris went on to have a long distinguished career in the Australian military, rising to the top of the SAS.”
There was no hesitation when Perth Blues Club president Rick Steele and Perth Legacy member Peter Heeney invited Cadd to headline this year’s A Rhythm and Blues Variety Revue.
Cadd, who now lives in Melbourne, will be fresh from recording an Americana album in Nashville.
Matt Taylor, Rick Steele, Bob Patient, Katy Steele, Birdland, The Healys, the Rippin Horns and Peter Dee are also on the line-up, along with ‘Tiny’ Holly, who will lead an auction.
“Legacy is a great organisation.We need to continue to support our war veterans and their families wherever and whenever we can,” Cadd said.
“Rick and Peter have done a fantastic job making it all happen and putting on a top-class night of entertainment.
“I’m excited to be back on my home turf and see some familiar faces in the crowd.
“Hopefully everyone will dig deep to support Legacy.”
