IT was the two acts Perth festival-goers waited all night to see and Khalid and Cardi B, didn’t disappoint on the first night of Origin Fields at Langley Park last night.
Khalid the second last act of the night took to the stage for just over an hour – singing hit after the hit including Love Lies, Better, Young Dumb and Broke, Ocean, Silence and OTW to the adoring crowd.
The R’n’B singer was a soulful entrée to the provocative Cardi B who would take to the main stage at 10pm for her intended one-hour stint.
And while her first Australian performance fell well short of her 60-minute set, fans didn’t seem to notice or mind as Cardi set the stage alight in a sparkly red, lace bodysuit, red and black wig, alongside her back-up dancers who were also wearing next-to-nothing neon.
Paying homage to her past days as a stripper in New York, Cardi B, twerked, shook and sashayed her assets in front of the delighted 20,000 plus fans who watched outspoken rapper perform hits including I like it, Girls Like You (which she dedicated to her daughter Kulture), Money and Bodak Yellow.
Despite only playing just over 30 minutes, in true Cardi B form the singer took a quick toilet break, announcing to the crowd she had to “take a piss” before coming back on stage to finish the show.
Cardi continued to lap up the attention of her adoring fans, finising the night by saying she was happy to be in Perth because “you motherf…ers was lit.”
A sentiment she later shared with her 38million followers on her Instagram account.
Origin Fields continues this afternoon with performances from M.I.A and Pendulum.
