Clowning around in Cirque Adrenaline

LA-based clown and physical comedian Ross Steeves promised to show his wife Ashley the world when exchanging wedding vows.

He now has the chance to honour his promise to her and their one-year-old daughter Wren by joining the Australian touring cast of Cirque Adrenaline as the family show’s clown and MC.

“All I’m imagining is going to the beach,” Steeves said.

“As much as I love living in LA, it’s a bit of a grind and I’m looking forward to working on my Australian accent.

“No Australian ever gives me credit for doing it right but in my mind it’s pretty good; I want to try and blend in.”

It is difficult to imagine Steeves successfully ‘blending in’, not only because of the magnificent moustache he currently wears but also his penchant for the spotlight.

“I always figured I was going to be an actor and my aim was to be on Saturday Night Live like a typical television comedian,” he said.

“What I found out was that my physicality is a little more natural for me than getting up and talking.

“It’s where I’m more comfortable and I really have to attribute that training to my sisters and my mother.

“Every day was a mad house of silliness, dancing funny and performing funny physical characters as a family.

“It really blossomed when cousins started getting married; it became my favourite time to turn on the show.”

Steeves said he saw his Cirque Adrenaline role, including an entertaining balloon act, as “a little palette cleanser” between death-defying stunts of aerial silks, high bars, Russian bar and fire act.

“You’re on the edge of your seat the whole time, there’s never a dull moment and everyone leaves wide-eyed and perhaps wanting to join the circus,” he said.

“Either that or petrified not knowing how we did it.

“I’m personally looking forward to the weight loss; performing in the show is like the exercise plan of the century.”
