His mural shows a swan, a train and various aspects of life and industry in the area and is on the Old Perth Road side of the centre.
Property group Hawaiian chief executive Russell Gibbs said it was a tribute to the Town’s heritage.
Mr Nixon said he was inspired by the historical icons of the area.
‘My focus for the Bassendean project was to represent key elements of this strong community in their simplest forms using minimalist graphic icons,’ he said.
‘These ranged from key activities, to the geography, to key historical icons of Bassendean with the intention that the viewers identify with their piece of Bassendean and find their place in the artwork.
‘The minimal colour palette was designed to enhance the simplicity of the icons and contrast against the swan, while working with the existing structure of Bassendean shopping centre and the architect’s vision.’
