Eden an old soul

Tanya MacNaughtonEastern Reporter

THERE is a lyric in the title song on Karise Eden's latest album Things I've Done that describes the singer with elegant precision "young but Im an old soul"

Last year The Voice Australia series one winner went public with news she had suffered a physical and mental breakdown following the television show in 2012, feeling the pressure of being seen as a role model for troubled teens.

Now Eden calls her Queensland farm home and is first-time mother to five-month-old son Blayden who she described as "a pretty chilled kid who seems to like me belting songs around the house".

Her new single Loneliness, which features in OzHarvest's community awareness program, refers to some of the dark times she battled.

"It talks about the stuff I've been through and things we've all been through in some form or another, feeling alone and rejected," Eden said.

"But it's also about staying positive and believing that things will come around."

The singer, who cites Janis Joplin, Jimi Hendrix and Amy Winehouse as musical icons, will bring her national tour to Perth with shows at Ravenswood Hotel, June 12 and Charles Hotel, June 13.

"I've done a few intimate acoustic shows recently but this time around Ill be stepping it up and bringing a full band," she said.

"Obviously Ill playing songs from the new album, a few faves from my first album and a few surprise covers.

"Im looking forward to belting out with the energy of a full band behind me that's for sure. I sing with a lot of passion and emotion, so Im hoping people connect with that."
