Family cook book brought to life

Affectionately known as the ‘Italian mamas’ the cousins have been keeping themselves busy penning their first cookbook Saporito (meaning tasty) launched last month and will take part in this year’s Wine Show By the Bay in Crawley on Saturday.

Morley-based Pirone, who admits to learning everything she knew from her mother’s kitchen, said the last two years had been a crazy ride and one she was hoping would continue for years to come.

‘We have been busy cooking, writing and editing our book and holding lots of cooking demonstrations around Perth and country towns,’ she said.

‘The book Saporito came about ” thanks to UWA taking a chance on us and us believing that this book was going to come to life and it has.’

Cousin Muscara agreed, adding it had been a dream of the duo to put their family history onto paper and share it with others.

‘We always wanted to put our recipes into a cook book,’ Muscara said. ‘Our family traditions and photos and our journey and we are thankful to UWA publishing for giving us this opportunity.’

As for the future they will continue to do what they enjoy most ” cooking, spending time with their families and sharing their cooking philosophy of keeping this simple with others.

The duo will take part in this year’s Wine Show By the Bay where they will be joined by other Perth chefs and food personalities, including Kate Lamont, Russell Blaikie, French pastry chef Emmanuel Mollois, Iron Chef Australia winner Herb Faust and pizza king Theo Kalogeracos.

Wine Show by the Bay will be held at The University Club of Western Australia on Saturday from 11am to 5pm, to book phone 6488 8770.
