Five bathroom vanity trends from Houzz

Sara FitzpatrickEastern Reporter

A STATEMENT vanity has the power to enliven a lacklustre bathroom.

This year, particularly, they have become an integral way for homeowners to stamp their signature style to the home, says Houzz Australia and New Zealand editor Vanessa Walker.

“We continue to see more statement vanities on Houzz; whether personalised with statement handles, furniture-like in the way they showcase original joinery, or painted in bold, saturated colour,” she said.

Oversized handles

Large semicircle handles that form one round sphere is a quirky style being adopted by bathroom professionals and joiners on Houzz. It follows a popular trend to incorporate these oversized round handles on entrance doors. Matt black, chrome and timber are just some of the many different materials used.

Curves

Sharp, minimalist lines are being replaced with soft, soothing edges. More and more we are seeing curves in unexpected spots, like cabinets, kitchen islands and vanities. These curves reflect a bigger focus on wellness in our home as homeowners on Houzz look to their home to calm a frazzled mind. Speak to your local bathroom professional about how you can incorporate shapes into your bathroom.

Texture

Say goodbye to lacklustre vanities that don’t inspire and make room for textured vanities with a strong stylistic signature. Professionals on Houzz have been challenging the norm for quite some time and we continue to see innovative ways to create texture.

Colour

Plain white and laminate surfaces will take a back seat, while the design-savvy step up and express their creativity in new ways. Coloured vanities know no boundaries, and we are seeing more of them on Houzz in unique tones, such as reds, deep greens and even mustard.

Tiling and fixtures

Accessories are what give a vanity the complete look. Choice of tiling behind the vanity, and any fittings and fixtures, are thoughtfully considered by homeowners on Houzz to make their vanity stand out. Vanities with less colour and shape often compensate with bold tile choices and contemporary fixtures.
