Jazz by the bay: Cathrine Summers looking forward to three-day feast of jazz

Tanya MacNaughtonEastern Reporter

THE South West might have a more stunning coastline than where jazz singer Cathrine Summers grew up in the UK, but the region still makes her nostalgic for her homeland.

However, this is not the only reason she is looking forward to travelling to the Margaret River region over the June long weekend.

It will be her third time performing at the fourth annual Jazz by the Bay, a three-day feast of jazz, food and wine in various Dunsborough, Busselton and Margaret River venues.

“To perform at this event is an absolute delight,” Summers said.

“Being part of this festival is in itself one of my personal highlights of the year.

“It’s a weekend put on by some amazing and passionate people that brings energy to the region and to be part of this is fantastic.”

The event program features performances by world-class Australian musicians across 15 venues, including wineries, theatres, on the green and Ngilgi Cave.

Following her sold-out Fringe World season, Summers will take audiences back in time to the elegance and style of the fabled Cotton Club with her Gatsby By The Bay show at Wyndham Resort on Sunday, June 5.

She and her quintet will present a mix of old standards, French, Spanish and Italian jazz music, along with songs featured on The Great Gatsby soundtrack over a three-course dinner.

“Each year the festival gets bigger and bigger,” Summers said.

“There are so many reasons Perth jazz lovers should pop down.

“A weekend away to one of the most beautiful parts of the country with a plethora of amazing quality music at favourite wineries and hotels is simply wonderful.

“The musicianship is not only provided by some of the best musicians in Perth and surrounds but it is fun, lively and entertaining. I can’t wait.”
