Jordan Baker duo bring luxury US experience to Cottesloe

Belinda CiprianoEastern Reporter

FRIENDS Jane Moffat and Amanda Perkins drew inspiration for their Cottesloe boutique Jordan Baker based on their experiences of resort-style niche shopping destinations.

The duo, who spent time in New York and have a passion for the US shopping experience, said they came up with the idea for their shop and online story while living overseas.

“We opened Jordan Baker a little over a year ago, in response to our perceived gap in the Australian market for accessible luxury items from the US,” Moffat said.

“The idea was to create a space like one would often find on vacation, with an eclectic assortment of stock, yet retaining a luxury, informed edge,” she said.

“Our name evolved as soon as we combined luxury and America into our thought process and The Great Gatsby came to mind.

“Our favourite character Jordan Baker wasn’t far behind.”

Describing their style as classic with a twist, Moffat said shoppers could find their favourite US brands including Kule, Lingua Franca and Parker Thatch in the store.

“We both love pops of colour and mismatched prints,” she said.

“Stripes, as often as possible, but we’re not opposed to black and white.

“We are both dedicated followers of fashion and pop-culture, and have each ended up having stints living in New York.

“At Jordan Baker we tie all of that together in a very organic way.”

Currently working with more than 30 US labels, Moffat said they were in talks with at least another dozen.

“We nearly always work directly with the brand at its base, not through distribution,” she said.

“This has resulted in very meaningful connections with our partners, and the ability to communicate with them at a grass roots level.

“We have also found the space for our own brand, Jordan Baker the label, through which we aim to provide ‘what women want’.

“It’s fab being able to take into account women’s requests for pockets or soft waists or length or colour.

“Tying that label into our US brands has been really enjoyable.”
