NORTH Fremantle singer songwriter Lucy Peach has always enjoyed connecting with people.

The former human biology teacher also worked in sexual health before her music grew enough to become her main gig.

“In an ideal world, who wouldn’t want to work in music if you had the opportunity, but I never really considered it,” Peach said.

“Having done it for quite a few years, it was just time and experience that made me realise that was the best use of my energy and gifts.”

Peach, who grew up listening to Stevie Nicks, Bob Dylan and is inspired by the storytelling of Paul Kelly, released her first EP Wax and Wane in 2011 before 2016 EP Silver Tongue featuring single Be So Good.

Fringe World fans would also be familiar with her theatre shows My Greatest Period Ever and How To Period Like A Unicorn, which she collaborated on with husband Richard Berney, who also films her video clips.

My Greatest Period Ever was a pretty major turning point,” Peach said.

North Fremantle singer songwriter Lucy Peach will perform at The Court for WAMFest on November 3, 2018.

“Doing that theatre show was a true culmination of everything I’ve ever done. It was based on things I’d learnt and taken on in my own life when I was working in sexual health, using music to convey that.

“The menstrual cycle is just so misunderstood where we think it’s an on/off thing when in actual fact we have a lot going on; this is one way of understanding we have four seasons in the month.

“When you know what to expect you can be a lot kinder to yourself and I think that’s what the world could do with, is people being kinder to themselves.”

Peach is one of more than 150 acts to perform in this year’s WAMFest on November 2 and 3 on multiple stages across Perth and Northbridge, all with free entry.

She said she loved the annual event, which was a beautiful culmination of the diverse and supportive community in the WA music industry.

Peach will perform in Cannonball at The Court on Saturday, November 3, featuring a line-up of female artists to celebrate women in music.

“I’ll be with my band and doing songs from my most recent EP Silver Tongue and some new songs,” she said.

“I’m really looking forward to playing and celebrating WA music with everybody.”
