DARWIN’S darling Jessica Mauboy rocked Perth Fashion Festival on Sunday September 20 as the women’s wear ambassador for Target at its spring/summer show.
The capacity crowd went wild as Mauboy strutted her stuff down the runway and belted |out Pop a Bottle and Can I Get a Moment in the store’s latest collection showcased in Forrest Chase.
Mauboy said she still got worried about tripping while performing on stage and with her debut runway show that fear was heightened, but the energetic audience put her at ease.
“It makes a big difference when you have a crowd that revs you up and has a vibe already so it made it really easy not to think about tripping over,” she said.
“The crowd made it so warm and welcoming I just forgot about all the little concerns.”
The 26-year-old songstress said it was a natural progression to merge her two loves, music and fashion.
“Music has always been my first love and fashion second; being out there performing it’s always important to look right so they combine,” Mauboy said.
“When it comes to performing I definitely love to get glammed up and be pampered with hair and make-up and wear something that’s a little bit sparkly and shimmery.
“I also like that street look, denim and khaki, and I love the off-the-shoulder relaxed boho look too.”
Mauboy said Target brought back childhood memories with her family so the partnership was not a hard decision.
“Target has always been on trend and it’s just getting better,” she said.
“It’s diverse and that’s the celebration of the brand.”
Mauboy incredibly has found time to fit her new fashion ambassador role into her busy schedule while working on her music for the past year, recently releasing her This Ain’t Love single and writing for a film.
“Being able to juggle it – it does take a lot of guts and strength and confidence,” she said.
“As an individual I think you have to feel your way through what you are confident in and what you can take and that’s what I do.
“I take everything with love and care and wouldn’t do something I feel I couldn’t achieve or have the guts or the strength to.
“Releasing my new single… This Ain’t Love has already become a hit with the community so it’s really nice to be able to bring it back to music, my first love.
“It’s a really special time with music; it’s just the first taste of what’s to come.”
