PERFORMING almost every night since July has not slowed down Patrice Tipoki, who has just released her debut album.
Tipoki is currently playing Fantine in Les Misrables, which has just extended its Sydney shows to July, where she says she has the honour of performing I Dreamed a Dream one of the songs that feature on her album.
A Musical Heart is a collection of theatre tunes from nine musicals Tipoki has appeared in since making her musical debut at age seven in The King and I, also including Wicked, Beauty and the Beast, We Will Rock You, The Lion King and West Side Story.
Because it spans the times and the shows that I have done in my career so far, each song is personal and putting it together, it literally feels like I have put my heart on my sleeve out there, she said.
Its not like doing a musical where you play a character and you do what youre directed to do.
This is me singing these songs and putting it all out there, so Ive been really thrilled with the positive response weve had.
The WAAPA graduate also teamed up with Les Misrables co-star Simon Gleeson for a rendition of The Righteous Brothers classic Unchained Melody from Ghost for the 10th song.
I did a concert with Simon before we started Les Mis where he sang the song and was accompanied by my sister, she said.
I remember as soon as my sister started playing, I thought This is so beautiful so when we were putting this track list together and trying to decide on a 10th song, that kept popping up. so I thought, Well, lets just put it in there because its beautiful and I love it and I get to decide.
