Natalie Pearson’s Dixie Chicks Perth Arena gig a Long Time Coming

Sara FitzpatrickEastern Reporter

RISING Perth country-pop singer-songwriter Natalie Pearson is an emotional being and proud of it.

Unwilling to compromise after finding her voice through music, she’s telling it like it is.

“People used to say to me: ‘Stop being so emotional, suck it up’,” Pearson said.

“But why can’t I be emotional and feel things?”

With her heart on her sleeve, the songbird has poured her soul into newly-released EP, Long Time Coming.

“There was a lot of ‘real’ stuff in my music and when it came to recording it was all fine and then I suddenly thought: ‘People are actually going to hear this now and they’re going to see a little bit behind the curtain,’ and it was scary,” Pearson said.

“But I have no regrets – this is me and they can love it or leave it.”

Pearson, 2016 winner of the MusicOz Australian Independent Music Awards ‘Best Country’ title, grew up singing Annie songs around the house and began vocal lessons at age five.

“I haven’t stopped singing since,” she said.

“Turning this passion into a long-term career would be the ultimate dream.

“I’d love to tour and immerse myself in music and not have to slave away at a nine-to-five job to support myself.”

She played her first Tamworth Country Music Festival this year and now embarks on a national tour, which includes performing the pre-show entertainment for the Dixie Chicks in the Perth Arena foyer in April.

Long Time Coming was an emotional release for me,” Pearson said.

“If I want people to take anything from it, it would be to just be yourself. Everybody has those ups and downs in life, everybody goes through heartbreaks and feels insecure – you’re not alone.”
