Peppa Pig Live! to make a big splash at His Majesty’s Theatre October 8 and 9

LIFE Like Touring creative director Theresa Borg loves deciding what the Melbourne-based children’s theatre company will present next.

“It’s great but getting trickier as I get older because my own kids are older now. My youngest is 11, so I have to look to my nieces and nephews to see what the trends are and what children are enjoying,” Borg said.

“It’s good fun keeping up with the little people.”

Borg started the company with her husband Anton Berezin in 1999.

It was the year after they were married and the couple, who were experienced actors, wanted to be able to earn a living doing what they knew they could do well.

“So we started producing children’s theatre where I think the secret is giving kids more than they expect with singing, dancing and interaction,” Borg said.

“We’re pretty lucky because we get to do what we love and get to enjoy everybody else watching it.”

Since those early days, the company has worked on shows including The Wiggles characters Dorothy the Dinosaur and Captain Feathersword, Sesame Street, Scooby Doo Live and Dora the Explorer.

The latest addition is Peppa Pig Live! Big Splash, which will be at His Majesty’s Theatre on October 8 and 9.

Borg is the show’s resident director, having remounted the production originally presented by UK theatre company Limelight Productions.

“The show is all very dramatic where there’s a leak in the schoolhouse roof and Peppa and her friends decide to have a fair to raise money to repair the roof,” she said.

“One of the events at the school fair is a puddle jumping competition, and of course Daddy Pig is a world champion puddle jumper.

“It’s so witty and British in that wittiness that everybody loves it, from our smallest fans to their grannies and granddads.”
