THE Revelation Perth International Film Festival schedule is so big this year, the program required a spine to hold all the pages together.

Launched on June 11, the annual film festival program features a diverse selection of films drawn from across the world, with Demolition starring Jake Gyllenhall kicking things off on July 7.

Organisers sat through more than 400 films and whittled them down to 143 films.

This year will include 14 world premieres, 42 Australian premieres, a Jim Henson retrospective program, Get Your Shorts On! and films from places including Australia, Iceland, Canada, France, Paraguay, Ukraine and Japan.

Program director Jack Sargeant said it was a “mammoth task” putting together the festival’s biggest program to date.

“It truly encompasses everything from children’s movies to video art, poignant dramas to gore horror movies, contemplative documentaries and laugh-out-loud films,” he said.

“There’s a sense, from looking over the program, of the true potential for cinema, an ability to communicate to audiences, to engage viewers and to inspire something in all. I hope people find something special in the event.”

Festival director Richard Sowada said this year they wanted to explore as many corners of the world as possible.

“I think the event is our best ever showcase of the transformative power of the big screen and in so doing brings to WA new cinematic ideas and vital and energetic new perspectives,” he said.

“It’s impressive and is filled with depth, texture, strength and challenge.”

Revelation Perth International Film Festival runs from July 7-17.
