Rocking the quiz live

Laura PondEastern Reporter

WITH fond memories of his last visit to Perth, RocKwiz co-host, writer and producer Brian Nankervis is looking forward to returning in October for RocKwiz Live! Salutes the ARIA Hall of Fame.

"Im certainly looking forward to coming to the West again. I have very vivid memories of the last time there; in fact, it was one of the highlights of the tour," he said.

"I've got friends who live in Cottesloe and we played frisbee and football on that beautiful grassed area near the town hall" we swam, we had lunch at Il Lido, we had a table tennis tournament and then went on to do probably the best show of the whole tour.

"I think our first national tour we did more shows in Perth than we did in any other city - we were bowled over by the response."

After a successful 13th series of RocKwiz on SBS, the team, including co-host Julia Zemiro and house band accompanied by Even guitarist Ashley Naylor and Vika and Linda Bull, is taking it on the road for a special series of live shows based on ARIA Hall of Fame inductees, which includes artists such as Dame Nellie Melba, Cold Chisel, Paul Kelly and Kylie Minogue.

"The live shows, they're a bit looser, they're a bit more relaxed because you're not panicking about cameras and you're not worrying about"am I in the right light?"," Nankervis said.

"The shows tend to be a little more unpredictable, we tend to improvise a bit more, we know we can take some risks."

It will follow the usual RocKwiz format, with Nankervis prowling the foyer prior for potential rock brains to battle it out on stage and a mix of established and emerging artists as guests.

"We'll have members of the Hall of Fame, but we'll also have contemporary artists who will perform iconic songs made famous by the Hall of Fame artists," he said.

"All the shows will feature multiple artists, so it's a show for the whole family. There will be something or someone that everyone knows and can get excited about."

Nankervis said the show would be a tribute and celebration of Australian music.

"It will very much be about the Australian industry and the Australian music history," he said.

"But it's also about celebrating and about having a great night, forgetting your troubles and immersing yourself in this big, loud rock and roll show.

"We may not do this for another year or so too and you guys, you're a fair way away over there, so come one, come all, it will be a great night."
