The Royal Highness of style and costumer designer of Sex and the City was in Perth last week to officially launch Style and the City, an exhibition showcasing 24 costumes in a must-see month-long fashion event presented by enex100 and Forrest Chase.

Visiting Perth for the first time the flamboyant 73-year likened it to Los Angeles with open spaces, warm weather and easy wear fashion.

Having already presented some of the costumes to a Melbourne audience last year, Field said she was excited the exhibition would now be seen by Perth fashionistas.

‘We started the exhibition in Melbourne at Chadstone last year and it was really quite a success so we thought let’s put it on the road and this our second one,’ Field said.

‘I pulled together about two dozen iconic pieces from the show and the movies and my idea was to basically stage it like these four girls.’

While admitting every piece in the exhibition was her baby and she found it hard to choose her favourite, the Versace Mille Feuille gown worn Sarah Jessica Parker in season six of the series is a stand out.

‘I love it because it was staged beautifully and of course the story behind it,’ she said.

‘They were filming the scene when I got to the set and the dress was all bunched under her.

‘I said this is a doily and she is heart-broken it needs to look like this. We reshot it and the rest is history.’

Outfits including the bridal party selection and the iconic white tutu will feature in the exhibit as well as pieces from designers including Chanel, Christian Dior, Dolce and Gabbana, Ralph Lauren, Yves Saint Laurent, Versace, Alexander McQueen, Vivienne Westwood and Sonia Rykiel.

The Style and the City exhibition runs until May 1 and can be seen at enex100’s Hay street level and the ground floor at Forrest Chase Myer.
