DEADPOOL star Stefan Kapicic is excited for his first trip down under for Supanova Pop Culture Expo, where he will get to hang with “his people”.
The German-born Serbian actor and self-confessed comic book nerd, who played X-Men character Colossus in the box office superhero hit, said he may even geek out over fellow stars at the expo.
“I am a huge comic book fan, so this is a childhood dream come true,” he said.
“I was into the Marvel universe as a kid and I had a vision of how Colossus talked and behaved.
“People that go to these conventions are my people; I went to them as a fan, I could have a geek moment myself.”
Despite more than 70 roles in theatre, film, and television under his belt, including playing his own Dad and retired basketball player Dragan Kapicic in 2015’s Bićemo prvaci sveta (We’ll Be Champions of the World), it would seem the passive muscle mutant Colossus was the role he was born to play, with a towering 6’4” frame.
While he may not be recognisable on the screen, Kapicic said he was not relegated to a sound recording booth to simply provide the voice for the character.
“It was about creating the character; I worked with Ryan (Reynolds) all the time, acting with him,” he said.
“It is not just the voice, we had to find the soul of the character; (director) Tim Miller wanted to give a total feeling of the character.”
Deadpool’s $763m box office take guaranteed a sequel, but Kapicic could not dish any details.
“It would be a pleasure and an honour to play Colossus again, and you never know what would happen in the sequel,” he said.
“But there are so many non-disclosure agreements right now.”
Perth Supanova Pop Culture Event will be at the Perth Convention and Exhibition Centre from June 26 to 28.
