Todd King hopes to be Ali Oetjen’s knight in shining armour on The Bachelorette

AFTER several tough relationships and being compared to a dead ex-boyfriend, appearing on The Bachelorette has been a somewhat of a breeze for Todd King.

The 26-year-old said he’d been unlucky in love, found dating difficult and wasn’t a fan of the online dating culture after experiencing what he described as his worst date ever.

“ I went on a date with a girl and she had unfortunately just lost her ex-boyfriend and by the sounds of it was way too soon to get back into the dating game but she obviously just needed someone to talk to,” he said.

“I hung around for a couple of hours and there were a lot of tears and then I thought it was time I should head off.

“I walked her to car and out of nowhere she just kissed me and then broke down crying saying the way I kissed reminded her of dead boyfriend –that was a bit of a disaster but you’ve got to feel for the girl.

“But my last relationship was a really good one but it ended up on not the best note though we maintained our friendship.

“It seems my relationships last about 18 months as I’ve called it the 18 month itch and they’ve all broken up with me – I’ve been pretty unlucky.”

Deciding to take a leap of faith on reality television, the sales representative said he wanted to get out of his comfort zone and try something completely different and knowing The Bachelorette was Ali Oetjen gave him more of an incentive.

“For me it was that she definitely fit the mould I guess what you call my type – most of my ex partners have been quite leggy blonde girls,” he said.

“But I made a conscious effort to not look into Ali at all.

“I knew she had been on the show in the past and I just really wanted to get to know her at face value and I was very happy with what greeted me on the red carpet.”

Turning up as Oetjen’s “knight in shining armour”, King said viewers would see someone who wore his heart on his sleeve, more dad jokes and witness his best date.

“I definitely kept my eye on the prize and like Ali said I came in with my heart on my sleeve and I continued that along the whole journey,” he said.

“In an upcoming episode you’ll see my best date yet and right now I’m completely happy and very content.

“Am I in love?

“You’ll have to watch but this is an experience where you are constantly out of your comfort zone, you learn a lot about yourself and you grow as a person.

“If that’s the very least of what I took out of it then it’s a massive win for me.”
