WASO, the WASO Chorus and special guest artists including violinist Shaun Lee Chen, soprano Sara Macliver and The Waifs singer Donna Simpson will present a special program including Vaughan Williams’ The Lark Ascending and Albinonis Adagio.
RSL WA president Graham Edwards said he was in full support of the concert from the moment WASO first approached him with the idea.
Its something we were keen to support because its another means of commemorating and reminding people of the importance of the significance of this year being the centenary, Edwards said.
We of course recognise WA is a broad and diverse community and the more we can connect with various community groups, the better we can, I think, get the message of commemoration across.
People come along to concerts to be entertained but I hope they will be entertained in such a way that it reminds them of the significance of this very special year.
Edwards, who served in Vietnam, where he was wounded twice and lost both legs, has served as RSL WA president for more than two years following his retirement as a State and Federal member of parliament.
Ive been a member of the RSL since 1970, he said.
We do a lot of work for advocacy, welfare work and of course have a very strong role to play in ensuring the spirit of Anzac lives on.
Concertgoers will also be able to learn more about the Anzac story before and after the concert, with historical displays in the Perth Concert Hall foyers.
