We’ve found the perfect pair of jeans … and they only cost $25

Belinda CiprianoEastern Reporter

EVERY woman knows the struggle of finding that “perfect” pair of jeans.

That magical pair that sucks you in at all the right places, makes you look a size smaller and your peach perfectly pert, yep that pair.

I last went on a jean buying spree in 2010 and bought three pairs of dark denim, skinny leg jeans in the US from Gap.

Truth be told, I ain’t one to throw a classic away and anything I know that will stand the test of time stays in my wardrobe repertoire.

They still fit like a glove, are featherweight light but as a woman in her early 40s I’ve decided low waisted jeans are no longer my jam.

Last year I started the hunt to revamp my denim wardrobe and with little success I purchased two pairs of light coloured high waisted jeans – one $79 and the other $220.

I’ve worn the more expensive pair once and the $79 pair a handful of times.

This season I decided I’d try again and invest in a good, quality, dark denim style jean that I could dress up or down.

I tried several high-end stores and then explored stores that I hadn’t visited since my teens including Just Jeans and Jeans West.

I’d almost given up and thought I’d have to get the Gaps out again until I found a nice enough pair at Jeans West.

At $100 they weren’t overly priced, had a decent stretch, were a nice colour and did the trick.

Last week while flicking through social media I came across Helen James from social media account I Heart KMart doing Insta stories in her undies.

What on earth, I thought, before thinking all power to you sister, there’s no way I could do that.

But Helen was not just standing around in her undies, she was demonstrating a new find she had stumbled upon and was excited to share it with her 122k followers.

That find – a magical pair of jeans.

Yes according to Helen these jeans were said to suck you in at all the right places – tick; make you look a size smaller – tick; and your peach perfectly pert – tick.

Tell me more Helen, I said as I shoved my phone closer to my face, examining said jeans from top to toe.

There she was dancing and jumping around on my screen telling her followers she was hoping the fitting-room mirror hadn’t deceived her (it hadn’t), when she declared the best bit yet – they were $25.

Sold.

The next morning I visited my closest KMart and wondered if this magical jean sorcery would work on me too.

At $25 I had nothing to lose and there was always my latest buy and trusty Gaps to fall back on should they be awful.

There they were the – Sculpting Skinny Jeans extra high-rise in sizes 6-18 and colours black, light wash, brom blue and dark wash.

At first glance I’m put off and don’t like the colours but I grab a dark wash and head to fitting room to try my luck – after all I drove all this way (10kms).

I put each leg in, so far, so good, hoike them up and voila they fit – perfectly.

Just like Helen I start dancing and squatting (one must always do the squat test) and they fit like a glove.

The colour looks better on and they miraculously sculpt my body, I really do feel a size smaller, I’m tucked in and my peach feels pert – amazing.

Needless to say they came home with me, have been glued to my derriere almost everyday since and I’ve told every woman I know they must try them (some already have – and have experienced said sorcery – magic).

Don’t get me wrong – I love a classic and more expensive piece especially when I know it’s going to stand the test of time but not everyone can afford to spend $220 on a pair of jeans (worn once).

I’m also for slow fashion and anyone who has seen my wardrobe can vouch a classic piece I know is not going to date, stays.

I have clothing from my early 20s which I still wear and put on rotation with new pieces and styles.

In my opinion if you’re going to drop some dough on a big-ticket item, make sure it will last a while and team it with something cheaper, you don’t have to spend a fortune to look or feel a million bucks.

Which is exactly how I feel when I wear my magical $25 KMart sculpting jeans with an oversized jumper, heels and Hermes cuff – thanks Helen.
