WHILE it might be cold outside, Cott & Co Fish Bar has turned up the heat in the kitchen with a fancy new winter lunch menu.

The beachside location, a hot spot in summer is providing patrons with the ideal spot to enjoy lunch and a vino not just on weekends but Monday to Friday.

The day we arrived, it was a blustery winter’s day but inside it was warm and inviting.

Overlooking the water, you can see why this place is a popular destination for those looking for a dose of all good things, with the Indian Ocean at your footsteps, delicious food and wine.

We sampled the new menu “lunch for two” which offers diners a choice of two meals per person: entre and main or main and dessert for $55.

However, we were feeling like gluttons and wanted to try the lot.

First up the entrees, which were a choice of zucchini fritters, wild rocket, mint and organic fetta salad and the grilled sardines with salsa verde and cherry tomatoes on sourdough.

I love a good fritter and these were up there with the best I have had.

Light and fluffy they were the perfect starter to the meal.

I am not one for sardines so my companion enjoyed these all to herself.

Nestled on a bed of salsa verde and cherry tomatoes, she said the dish was perfectly balanced and had the right amount of sweetness to counteract the saltiness of the sardine.

For mains the two choices included maple roasted pumpkin risotto with kale and goat’s cheese or saffron and tomato -braised barramundi, kipfler potatoes and cavalo nero.

Simplicity at its best, delicious just does not cut it, in fact I may or may not have recreated the risotto dish twice since visiting.

Again sweet and salty flavours marry perfectly to create a perfect winter warmer, while the other choice of barramundi was light and flaky and the ideal alternative.

To finish dessert was a choice of vanilla bean panna cotta with Frangelico and strawberries or spiced apple tarte tartin, white chocolate and berry ice cream – of course, we had both.

In my opinion, Panna cotta is the best way to finish off any meal.

Super light but creamy I preferred it to the spiced apple tarte tartin which was slightly richer following an indulgent afternoon.
