RENAULT’S just-launched new Megane has been given the full works in a drive to make Australians fall in love with the beauty.
It has a shapely new body, an all-new interior with more space and the latest techno bits, a choice of two engines and several levels of specification.
Now in its fourth generation, the Megane is available with a 1.2 or 1.6litre engine and in full GT or less powerful Life, Zen and GT-Line versions.
The five-door hatch is more efficient, more attractive, spacious and better equipped than ever before, and ‘3D Edge’ effect lighting front and rear, give the car a distinctive road presence.
Leading the charge is the new Megane GT, which benefits from Renault Sport technology in the form of a new generation turbo charged petrol engine, 4Control four wheel steering, RS Drive Mode with Launch Control and Multi Change Down shift control. Inside, it has Alcantara covered sports seats with integrated headrests, flat-bottomed leather-wrapped sports steering wheel and aluminium pedals.
Interior ambience and vehicle dynamic settings can be configured using the unique Multinsense ‘personalisation’ system, which allows the driver to select a mode to suit the driving conditions or their mood.
Drivers can cycle through Normal, Comfort, Sport, and Perso modes, to configure engine, transmission and steering settings, as well as interior lighting and dash displays at the touch of a button.
Powered by the latest generation Renault Sport 1.6 litre high efficiency engine mated to an enhanced Dual Clutch seven-speed transmission, controlled by paddle shifts mounted on the steering column, the Megane GT delivers 151kW and 280Nm.
And it uses just 6 litres /100km.
The Life, Zen and GT-Line offerings are powered by a high-tech 1.2litre 97kW/205- Nm four-cylinder turbo-ch-arged petrol engine that uses only 5.5 litres per 100km.
The roomier all-new Renault Megane has more space front and rear and a 434litre boot, expandable to 1247 litres with the back seats folded.
The hatch has a interior stiffer body shell and more insulation, while six airbags and an array of active and passive safety systems assist, alert and protect the driver and occupants.
Priced from $22,490, the Megane comes with a five- year unlimited distance warranty and five years of roadside assistance.
