WA vehicle sales increased for the first time this year, with sales in August up 4.2 per cent and contributing to record national sales.
The best seller again was Toyota’s HiLux, with 4287 sales nationally, including 464 in WA, followed by Ford Ranger and Toyota Corolla on 3588 and 2948 respectively.
Total Australian sales came to 96,662 vehicles, the best August on record.
A 16.7 per cent growth in the ute market and 4.7 in SUVs came at the expense of passenger car sales, which were down 8.2 per cent.
Among the volume sellers in WA, Hyundai sales were up by more than 50 per cent over August 2016, Kia was up 37 per cent, Audi 19 and Honda 3 per cent.
Hyundai’s Accent led the local light car market, Corolla was tops in the small car segment, Camry dominated the medium sector and Commodore the large car market.
Kia Carnival was the best-selling people mover and Ford Mustang garnered 61 sales to top the sports car segment.
The leader of the small SUV sector was Mitsubishi’s ASX, Hyundai Tucson finished ahead of Outlander among the medium SUVs and Toyota Prado was the top big boy.
Top 10 nationally were: Toyota, Mazda, Hyundai, Holden, Mitsubishi, Ford, Volkswagen, Subaru, Kia and Nissan.
In the UK, VW Golf was the top seller in August, in India it was the Maruti (Suzuki) Baleno, HiLux topped sales in South Africa, Ranger was ahead of HiLux in New Zealand – by one sale – and Honda was number 1 in China.
