She was born and raised in the US but has lived in Perth for the past five years.
Alvarado will head back to the states to complete a four-year softball scholarship at Utah State University.
“My goal has always been to play on the USA Olympic team,” she said.
“I have dual citizenship so I have the option of playing for Australia.”
The pitcher, who trains at Softball WA headquarters in Mirrabooka, does not leave until August, so will have time to work on her skills.
“I will continue to play because the state competition finishes in March; after that I will keep training until I have to go,” Alvarado said.
