A PUPPY was surrendered to the RSPCA on May 27 after a woman allegedly smacked and kicked the seven-week-old dog at a Maylands park.

A police spokeswoman said the puppy named Princess was aggressively smacked several times by a woman in her 30s at a park on Guildford Road.

She said the woman was in a group of people, including Princess’ owner.

Another woman saw the woman kick Princess.

The woman was concerned for Princess’ wellbeing and intervened, taking hold of the puppy before a member of the group took the puppy back off her.

The concerned bystander called police and RSPCA for help.

The police spokeswoman said Regional Operations Group (ROG) officers and RSPCA inspector attended to speak to Princess’ owner.

“The dog was surrendered to the RSPCA and was immediately taken to a vet for assessment,” she said.

“The ROG team have since checked on how Princess is going, and she is in good spirits.”

Inquiries are continuing.
