Balga high-speed chase: man charged after car hits tree

POLICE have charged a 25-year-old Girrawheen man after a high-speed chase through Balga on Sunday afternoon.

Police allege that about 12:30pm they identified a stolen vehicle in the Balga area.

The driver failed to stop then continued to evade police throughout Balga, driving at speed and running red lights.

The car then crossed onto the incorrect side of Mirrabooka Avenue before hitting a tree.

The man ran from the vehicle, but was arrested by police in bushland.

It will be alleged the car was stolen from an 86-year-old man on Sunday morning, with the man allegedly demanding the elderly man’s keys as he arrived home.

The Girrawheen man has been charged with stealing a motor vehicle, reckless driving, failing to stop, having no authority to drive and providing false details to police.

He is scheduled to appear in the Perth Magistrates Court today.
