SENIORS in the City of Swan will have access to a 245-unit aged care precinct in Ballajura, with the first stage of development set to start in mid-2019.
The City signed off on a contract with aged care group Southern Cross Care for the development on a 4.4 ha site in Paradise Quays.
The proposed precinct includes 120 aged care units, 70 independent living units and 34 dementia care rooms, piazza, community lounge and recreation facilities.
This development was expected to improve the shortage of aged care facilities in the City, where 918 extra aged care beds and 1300 more retirement villages were needed by 2036.
Southern Cross Care chairman Brad Prentice said the precinct was being developed in response to a high demand for more accommodation for older residents in the Ballajura community.
“With an enviable location that provides residents with an abundance of outdoor spaces to enjoy including natural bushland, in addition to the amenities expected in a modern community, we are confident Paradise Quays will become a lively urban neighbourhood of like-minded residents, retirees and their families,” he said.
