BALLAJURA households will be less exposed to traffic noise with the construction of a noise wall along Hepburn Avenue.
Transport Minister Rita Saffioti has delivered an election commitment for a limestone wall worth $5 million, being constructed along a 4.5 kilometre section of Hepburn Avenue from Bellefin Drive to just west of Marangaroo Drive.
The wall will replace sand bunds which have eroded over time and led to crime issues.
A poorly vegetated sand bund east of Bellefin Drive was removed as part of the NorthLink WA project.
The sand bunds west of Bellefin Drive will have more vegetation.
Preparation works to build an access track for construction is expected to start in early December with construction of the wall to start in January 2019.
The limestone wall will be constructed by Great Northern Connect and completed mid-next year.
Ms Saffioti said the wall would reduce noise and improve amenity for residents.
“Traffic on Hepburn Avenue will increase once the NorthLink WA project is complete,” she said.
“Residents in properties where the limestone wall will replace their existing back fence will be contacted by GNC prior to works commencing and I appreciate their patience during construction of the wall.”
Mirrabooka MLA Janine Freeman said the situation with the current sand bund on Hepburn Avenue had been creating several issues.
“Residents will also be pleased to hear that funding has also gone towards improving the more effective bunds west of Bellefin Drive with more vegetation,” she said.
