Ballajura Public Library to close until 2019 due to renovations

Kristie LimEastern Reporter

BALLAJURA Public Library will be closed until 2019 to make way for renovation works.

The library will be redeveloped into an integrated and place hub.

From November 1, library users can visit a reconfigured library at the Kingfisher Community Centre or pop-up spaces in Ballajura City Shopping Centre.

Swan Deputy Mayor Kevin Bailey said the centre would have a selection of books and DVDs in a pop-up collection space.

“Also located at the shopping centre is the pop-up program space, where the library’s calendar of programs will continue,” he said.

“To access public computers, printing and scanning facilities, and to make payments, community members can visit the pop-up PC Place temporarily operating at Kingfisher Community Centre.

“During this time we will also be engaging with our library customers in interesting ways for feedback and input into what our library will look like and services it will offer when the permanent library reopens.”

Whiteman ward councillor John McNamara said the scope of works included significant upgrades to the existing building fabric and services infrastructure.

“We will reconfigure the existing offices, meeting rooms, storage rooms, plant rooms and amenities to integrate the place office into the existing library,” he said.

Construction is set to start in late November and expected to be completed in late 2019.
