BASSENDEAN’S Brennan Robertson was named WA apprentice of the year at the Australian Meat Industry Awards for Excellence presentation dinner on Saturday.

Torre and Mordini Gourmet Meats’ master butcher Lee Riskas said Mr Robertson had been working at the Duncraig butchery for almost three years.

“We think he is an excellent apprentice,” he said.

“He is an outstanding young man and a pleasure to work with; very well respected with his workmates.”

Mr Robertson took part in the WA Apprentice of the Year Competition in September, where he had to prepare a carcass of lamb, answer questions and prepare meat from a mystery box into saleable cuts.

He will travel to Victoria next year to represent WA in the national competition.
