A Freedom of Information request by Bassendean resident Graeme King – which exposed confidential meetings between the Town, LandCorp and Swan Districts Football Club, and a business case – sparked the challenge.

At a briefing session last week, councillors and staff discussed the motion, which was part of the draft agenda.

Councillor Paul Bridges, who facilitated the briefing session, confirmed he would be raise the item for debate at tonight’s council meeting.

“I think we will be crucified if we accepted the report and moved on,” he said.

Acting chief executive Graeme Haggart said it was up to the council to decide whether the item would be debated.

According to an officer’s report, the Local Government Act required the chief executive to ensure the minutes of the general meeting of electors were available for public inspection.
