TWO Bassendean sites of serious crime are set to become safer with new technology.
A Town of Bassendean report has proposed a new CCTV system at the rear of council chambers and an upgrade of the existing cameras at Bassendean Youth Services and the skate park.
Councillors agreed at last week’s meeting to install and upgrade CCTV systems at the two sites.
Kiara Police officer in charge Mark Stoneman said the cameras would improve the safety in the town centre.
“The Town of Bassendean are installing some extra cameras at the back of the public park area and that is not a result of increasing crime and more of the fact that the cameras that were there were probably not sufficient,” he said.
“The funding has enabled it to actually upgrade them.”
