BASSENDEAN Mayor John Gangell will continue as mayor “at this stage” in response to community speculation he will resign from the role.

Rumours have circulated that Cr Gangell may resign to take up a full-time advisor’s position in the new Labor State Government.

Cr Gangell currently works part-time as a research officer for Midland MLA and newly appointed Police Minister Michelle Roberts.

Cr Gangell said his role was yet to be determined and would assess his position after it was confirmed.

“At this stage I am fully intending that I continue my role as the Mayor of the Town of Bassendean,” he said.

“In all reality, it would be a potential position with Minister Roberts but until I know what is occurring, I cannot advise any further.”
