Bassendean: Residents can have say on proposed cycling and pedestrian upgrades near train station

Kristie LimEastern Reporter

BASSENDEAN residents can comment on proposed cycling and pedestrian upgrades along Broadway from Iolanthe Street to Railway Parade.

The Town of Bassendean and Public Transport Authority project aims to make walking or riding to Bassendean train station more accessible for residents, by improving separation from cars.

It also aims to reduce traffic congestion around the station.

Proposed works include the upgrade of 550m of bicycle lane on either side of Broadway, upgrade of kerbing and footpaths at the start and finish of the bicycle lanes and improvements to pedestrian crossings at the intersection of Broadway and Railway Parade.

The asphalt bicycle lanes will be 1.25m wide and separated from traffic lanes by a 0.5m painted buffer.

The lanes will be created within the existing roadway without encroaching on verges or driveways.

Further streetscape and stormwater improvements will be considered in the design phase.

After considering community feedback, construction is expected to start in the first half of next year by PTA contractors.

Submissions can be made here before October 26, 5pm.
