A BAYSWATER student who won first prize in a calendar art competition last year is encouraging other students to take the opportunity to get their work published.

Bella Ulrich (15) won the Bayswater and Noranda Community Bank branches’ 2018 calendar art competition junior entry first prize for her sketch of herself at Ellis House.

There will be 13 winners, one for the calendar cover and one for each month, selected for the 2019 calendar and they will receive a $100 Bendigo savings account.

Winners will be judged by a panel of residents interested in art.

Bella said she studied art at her school, Mercedes College, but would like to keep it as a hobby.

“I like doing black and white sketches and drawing faces,” she said.

She advised entrants to draw something they were interested in and make it different.

Senior branch manager Sean Kay said entries were open to primary and secondary students who either live in, or attend school in, the City of Bayswater.

“We want to see how young people depict the community within the City of Bayswater and why they believe it’s a great place to live or go to school,” Mr Kay said.

“So, as well as photographs, we will also accept drawings, paintings, sketches, overlaid artwork, and computer designed artwork.”

Entries are open now and close at 5pm on July 13.

Entry forms are available from the branches at 14 King William Street, Bayswater, and Hawaiian’s Noranda, Benara Road, Noranda, or online at bendigobank.com.au/Bayswater.
