Bayswater: Former north ward councillor Michelle Sutherland re-elected in extraordinary election

FORMER Bayswater north ward councillor Michelle Sutherland will return to the council chambers tomorrow night, after she won the extraordinary election on Friday.

The position was left vacant after Brent Fleeton resigned from his position, which he held since 2015, in June.

Ms Sutherland, the wife of former Mt Lawley MLA Michael Sutherland, served as a councillor from 2013 to 2017 before losing her seat at the October 2017 ordinary election.

She received 1007 postal votes, ahead of first time candidate Greig Maitland (973 votes) and fellow former councillor Mike Anderton (733) votes.

Her first meeting will be tomorrow night’s committee meeting.Her term will end October 19, 2019, when there will be an ordinary election.
