A BAYSWATER aged care worker has been named best in the state at the Aged and Community Services WA Excellence in Care Awards.

Joan Stevenson was acknowledged for her work at City of Bayswater Hostel’s memory support unit.

She created a sensory room for residents and transformed a storage space with forest-themed decorations, artificial grass, massage chairs and aromatherapy diffusers.

Vaughan Harding, chief executive of Juniper who run the 70-place residential aged care facility, said Ms Stevenson had the ability to “calm, nurture and connect” with residents.
